Silai for Skills a local Women’s Further Education College, based in Easton, Bristol has nurtured the Silai Nappy Company since 2001, giving staff time and resources to allow students to develop the idea into a community enterprise. Babeco is now independent from Silai for Skills but owes much of its current success to the support and encouragement of Silai. Babeco currently recieves support from CRED funded through the Big Lottery Fund to support the implementation of a subsidised nappy laundry service for Low Income Bristol families. ![]() Bristol City Council, through European Objective 2, ERDF programme, awarded Babeco 18 months of development funding which supported the initial development of the company during 2003/04. This was matched by Bristol’s Neighbourhood Renewal Grant pot, which also contributed towards helping Babeco develop as community led organisation. Babeco has also recieved support from Social Economy Business Development Fund, Bristol’s Sustainable Neighbourhood Fund Nature Save Trust Awards for All Bristol City Councils - City Wide Development Fund Church Urban Fund Bristol East Side Traders Quartet Eva Fernadez the Director of BORN, a local retailer of reusable cotton nappies, buggies, birthing methods and much more, has supported Babeco since 2001. Eva has given her time and expert advice in product development and marketing.
